My dear friend Deb Hastings, bass player for Bo for 25 years, invited me to concerts and rehearsal spaces when Bo on occasion came to New York City. I asked Bo in 1988 if he would pose for some photos so that I could paint a portrait. He was wonderful and helpful, and always very kind anytime I saw him.
After a photo session I came upon a magazine article that mentioned his ownership of a 1957 Chevy back in the early days; it was a station wagon used for touring and carrying band equipment. The ’57 was an iconic car in automotive design and I decided to have some fun and add one to the portrait. This was the beginning of the automotive theme in my art.
